Telamadera Fusion: By bringing together "tela, the Spanish word for fabric, and "madera," the Spanish word for wood, I create a dynamic fusion of elements.

I begin with a canvas of wood. With an idea in mind, I study the grain and allow it to 'guide' me as to how the work will continue. I then decide what parts of the image will have their outlines burned into the wood. Where the wood grain is visible, I use silk dyes that saturate the wood evenly, and where the paint is opaque, acrylics are used.

I see a palette of color and texture in my fabrics. Each piece is carefully auditioned before it is committed to the painted surface by heat fusing. The magic begins when ten coats of a UV protective and archival coating are brushed on the surface giving luminosity to the piece. I feel this process make the fabrics I select, really 'sing!'

"Telamadera Fusion" requires patience, as it can take several weeks for one work to evolve. The results never cease to amaze me!
