My artworks address personal and social enigmas and narratives derived from myth, ritual and legend as they weave into contemporary life. The natural world informs and inspires the shapes, ideas and materials in my continued search for the marvelous.
Nancy VanKanegan (b.1954, Wonder Lake, Illinois) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago, Illinois. After receiving an MA in Interdisciplinary Art and Education from Columbia College in 1993 she has taught art and yoga at Columbia College, Northeastern Illinois University, DePaul University, with Art Resources in Teaching, Chicago Park District and Gallery 37. The social aspect of teaching, working in clay and print studios in Chicago and numerous artist residencies have informed the images and ideas in her work. Solo forays into nature continue to inspire her. Her installations have been presented in art galleries, community centers, parking lots, and humanities conferences and her sculpture and 2 dimensional works have been shown in galleries across the U.S.
